Broadband without a PC?
I think we're going to need to do some experimentation with this one. What I'd like to do is have everyone call their local broadband provider (cable, dsl, or whatever else is available in your area) and find out if they have a way to setup their broadband service without a PC. This is common for people with just video game systems like an XBox so I think some providers may have a solution already.
If you get any information, please let me know!
Broadband without a pc:
Tommy, I live in Williamsburg, VA and Verzon is my telco. DSL is a self install kit and requires the use of a pc. I just can't ask a friend to bring their pc to my house to experiment. I m disapointed that I can't have broadband as that is one of the msntv2's selling features. I can get a good deal on Cox cable and a high speed modum. Will that work on msntv2 or does that reqire a pc too?
Appreciate you advice....fred

Back on line again after a few days off. I am now connected to a Cox cable high speed modem. I do not have a pc nor is one required for the hookup. The modem has a numerical log-in and you can either phone it in or if you sign up at their customer office they will log it in for you. A technician must visit your pedestal location near your house to disconnect a blocking filter. The modem is simple and has just 3 connections on the back. Cox cable will sell you the modem for $79 or rent you one for $10 per mo. I bought mine at Best Buy ($79) because they rebate the entire amount if you sign up for cox cable service (who else would I get?). I took it to the cox office and they logged in the box ID numbers for me and scheduled the tech visit (pedestal filter) for the next day. Cox cable has 3 levels of service, Fast, faster, warp speed :~). I took the lower level for $24 per mo (2 months free). It seems to work well and I get the functions that were not available on dialup. The other faster speeds are $39 and $49. If this works out as advertised, I will probably drop my 2nd phone line. This adventure was a little scary as msn does not cover this applicaton (why?). I do not have a router as the msntv2 is he only thing connected to the modem. A router is basicly a fancy splitter that would be necessary if you have a pc or maybe 2 msntv2's. I am thinking that I might get my wife a msntv2 (9.95 mo) to replace her webtv classic (21.95 mo). I can add her free to my cable modem by connecting to a router. Well, back to exploring what is possible with a higher speed modem.........fred
