Freedom finally

After my decision to clean up the FAQ and provide only answers to technical questions (I've completely deleted the rants section and have been trimming other sections down), life is much better. I believe the FAQ is finally at a pretty useful state. Anyway, I still plan to offer some sort of self-maintaining document that users can edit at will, but have not done anything towards this yet.

I originally started the site with the intention of helping folks discover MSN TV 2 and help them along their way. The problem I ran into is that most of the folks that frequent the FAQ are WebTV veterans who just like to rant about what's different from their old box. Anyway, this gets old quite quickly and that was part of my decision to rid the FAQ of the rants. I found that while I was chasing these rants down, I started to lessen the scope of the site and therefore made it "unfun" for me.

To resolve this, I'm going to start talking more profusely on the race to transfrom TV into "the digital living room" vision that we've been hearing so much about. Quite simply, the focus of the site, just like the focus of TV is shifting. MSN TV 2 will simply be one topic of many that is discussed here (Tivo, MCE, SageTV, Xbox Live, Slingbox, etc and so forth). I'm doing this not because MSN TV 2 is boring, but because these are things I'm truly passionate about and enjoy using. If you're cool with that then I welcome you along the new path of MyTVLife.com.

You seem like a terrific person, but let us be honest! MSNTV 2 has many flaws, and you seem to be `sucking up' in an attempt to tell us that problems are non-existant.
What does MSN have to gain by putting an inferior product on the market, aside from instant cash that they didn't honestly earn? Trust me, you will be the 1st. one fired when the Attorney General's office investigates the issues surrounding MSNTV 2!

Ah yes...the ranters always find a way. Thank you John, for proving my point exactly. Apparently John has the ear of the Attorney General...hehe.

Anyway, I'll leave the ranting comments here but won't let them into the FAQ.

Am not sure where this will get me by posting this... but what the hell. I had been a webtv user for 6 yrs until last December, when i purchased this MSNtv2... promised quicker this, more secure that... and none of that has proven to be the truth.. far from it! I have tried to go back to webtv, but was told i'd have to pay for both webtv and msntv monthly. I have no email light to notify me when on line that i have gotten an email. When i attempt to download an mpeg and want to send it to a friend, i can't single that mpeg out, but have to send the entire page, which wasn't the case with webtv. I have been knocked off line, told there was a technical "problem" more times in the last 6 months than i ever was in the last 6/7 yrs with webtv. I'm not here to rant... am not a complainer. But i am expressing my opinion, and total disatifaction with this product i bought... my choice... and the product i have been patiently trying to deal with. Any contact with MSN has been a joke. I was told that all the problems would be work out by "spring", but i neglected to ask the year. I leave emails in my inbox until i have the time to answer them, and as of yesterday, all my incoming emails are dated 5/25.. out of sequence, and some are over 3 months old!

I send emails... and they end up in my draft folders...
And i don't know that until... one day... i go to check folders..

I have a computer at work. I prefer not to have a computer at home. That's why i went with webtv yrs ago... and then with msntv.

I'm sure not sure where this email will end up.. and have no idea if i will hear a word back from whoever. I was trying to find the email address for msntv tech support... which i did have in my address book... but it has disappeared...

This email may be in vain...?
Sure has gotten way too long... Thanks for letting me "vent"...

Any suggestions? Feel free to email me...

Thanks....

Well, that is all well and good that you have streamlined things so you can now work on them with ease and efficiency, etc. But let me tell you that I came here so I could find out about the MSNTV2. I couldn't care less about Tivo, XBox, SageTV (?) Slingbox (?) and whatever else you have mentioned. I wish you well, but it looks like I will be reading you a mite less in the future.

There will always be an MSN TV 2 faq (just click the faq link in the right column)...the main blog posts are going to get a might more interesting (to me at least). The main issue that I see with being too MSN TV 2 centric is that a large part of my target audience shys away from site. Rather than gear the site to a single product with a certain user base, I'd like to try to attract more readers into a larger discussion of TV and entertainment technologies and how they are changing our relationship with the entertainment itself (again something that is much more interesting to me than reading emails from a few ranters day in and out).

I just found your site. I promise not to harp on MSN TV 2! ;) If you are interested in Slingbox, feel free to stop by slingbox411.com. I will be the first "civilian" to review the product.

My MSNTV2 is great so far, but yesterday the blue email alert light went on telling me of one unread mail, but I do not have any. The message will not go away. Please help. I do not want to switch the alert off, if it would work properly!
Thanks.
