Transition

Well, I'm back from my Los Angeles trip and had a great time. I'll post some photos later today. Anyway, I found out that I'm transitioning to a different team at MSNTV and will be working on some cool new technologies geared around making the TV viewing experience better. Not to fret though, I plan on keeping this site running and leveraging my former teammates expertise in regards to helping y'all out. And, of course I will continue to be an MSN TV 2 user myself so I'm sure I won't fall too far behind.

Anyway, I'll be back to answer questions later this evening as I'm busy catching up and working on transition stuff (filling in documentation holes, cleaing up my test cases, etc).

this msntv2 needs broadband to be all that it could be. i ordered a cheap package from time warner. now i hear if i don`t have a pc i`m out of luck. if i had a pc why would i buy this. what makes you think everyone can afford 2 things.this should be broadband ready. i`m screwed out of video some music flash 6 won`t get me my bank bill pay. broadband is my only way to make this lemon viable.why is msn so callous towards its users & the common man. i should be able to hook up broadband 1 2 3 .i hope time warner can do it anyway & figure they can. i told them i have an msntv2. whats the tv experience have to do with msntv2. you have 1 because you work for them.+ you have a pc to network to. but not everybody does .they shouldn`t have to suffer with the unit as is. the update was hoey . maybe i should reconnect my + since you`ll be working on tv now. kidding. but i have 1. it may be worth 2 cents someday. gm

Man, you never give up do you? Others have been able to connect broadband without the use of a PC even before the 1.2 update. With the 1.2 update, it should be a piece of cake. Try calling the company and see if they can send someone out to give you a hand if a PC really is necessary (which I HIGHLY doubt).

Why do you believe that MSN is callous towards users? Users ARE able to "hook up broadband 1 2 3" as you say. That's the way the box was designed from day one. We have lots of customers using broadband with and without PCs quite happily.

Anyway, good luck with the whole thing. I've been coaching you and responding to your unbelievable incoherent emails privately for weeks and you're still moaning and groaning! Geez! Other folks would have started ignoring you by now...I guess I'm just a pushover.

If you want to get broadband, great! If not, then don't. End of story.

ok so i got it connected.i just read the material that said that. itis geared for home networking.why. if i had a pc why would i buy this. for me this is a poor mans pc.when you`re on ssi you`re poor. the videos now i get .but they don`t play correctly even with the 300 t1 the man said i have. they play for 10 sec if i`m lucky .then stuttering & a still picture. am i supposed to spend more money now .whats with this co. why don`t they now work. what i get don`t fill a thimble. if i were still able to work i wouldn`t give a shit if i had to spend another25 or whatever. but the way things stand now ,i resent getting broadband & still no video. thats a crock. you were right though it didn`t take the man long to connect it. i read where without a pc i might not be able to get it,thats all. whats this i don`t give up shit. do you like to lose or give up.i was in the upper middle class until i was 50 .now i have to watch every buck .maybe you can`t relate to that. if i were employed i probably couldn`t either. so is there anything i can do sans money to get the video to work.its really not prudent to put anymore money into this. already the flash 6 is outmoded. i can`t even get bill pay at my online bank site. need flash 7 at least. why don`t they start us higher .they know what happens.soon ie 6 or something else will go & i`ll have a blank screen. glad you had a nice trip .incoherent this mail is incoherent. i appreciated your help & said so. you of course affiliated with msn can`t use the callous word. but when i owned a + i felt like a leper nothing was done in yrs to improve it. you`re better now but a lot of people would have rather you kept to web tv with pip & itv. noone expected this. i enjoy it now that its not a snail. but the flash 6 & the video issue. whens your next update./? again glad you`re back & had some r& r gm

I'm not sure what a "300 t1" is...sounds like a really slow broadband connection (300Kbps? That barely qualifies as broadband in my opinion). If you're playing videos that are 300Kbps or over then you're going to have to rebuffer. It's simple math:

300Kbps pipe with 300Kbps video means that everything has to go PERFECTLY for the video to stay smooth. Not likely...especially with all of the traffic over the net these days.

I don't think an update will fix your video issue...just a bigger pipe. I have a 1.5Mbps DSL line at home and never get stuttering video.

As for Flash, we're working with Macromedia/Adobe on Flash 7. They've been sending us new versions to test and we've been testing them...nothing bulletproof yet.

Forgot to answer your "Why" question.

Why would someone with a PC want MSNTV2:

1. Second Internet access device for family (4 people on 1 PC? Very hard)

2. Movies to the living room (we're working on this one)

3. Enjoy your media content in the living room (Having a party? Use the box to show photos from your vacation and play music in the background).

Need I continue? There are lots of folks who have both a PC and MSNTV2 (besides just me).

thanks tommy. i thought broadband was broadband & i`d get the videos. but tech talk or not i should.i really shouldn`t have had to do a thing. i should get them loud & clear.thats why i use the word callous. the top of my homepage has videos iget the page i should get them. anyway yes i guess you`re right about families having both. you say we`re gettin flash 7 ,that would be great.for now thats the right level.i`m gettng bounced with the 6. understand i am 1 person & my thinking is geared that way.i admit i know very little about tech issues.however when i go to video settings on other sites 300 t1 is the highest settings after 56k & 100 so why do you say its slow. like the kids want their mtv i want my videos. have a good weekend .as for me i`m off to the races .beautiful belmont park,to sit out in the sun.+ watch the improvement of the breed.have a great weekend & i`ll check your comments tomorrow be well

Unfortunately, the state of the connectivity world requires the end user to learn a thing or two about the products before actually purchasing them (hmmm, I actually that that was true of almost everything...shouldn't you know what you're buying?).

Anyway, have fun at the races.

Hello--I'm in the predicament as the first complainer, being told that I could receive videos on the msntv.Having already owned #1 it took two loong phone calls and the third (one hour and 17 minutes) to get it connected.I was not told about any other need in order to receive video. Further phone calls informed me that I need call the phone and cable companies to see who and if either one could provide it,and if so,at what additional cost. And if not, then they were sorry. This is to much nervous technical activity for me *(eighty two years old)since I was expecti

ng the automatic set up hoping to be able to receive videos,I pass

a great deal of my time wiith msntv1 and get
a lot of enjoyment out it,but anticipated so much more from the #2 iF THERE IS no simple way for me to receive videos, thn I will have to return 2 and go back to no 1
